Earlier this year we took a trip to Washington D.C. with some good friends of ours and stayed with their parents, which was awesome! Not only did we have the best free accommodations, but our friend’s mother would prepare wonderful meals for us almost every night. Needless to say, we were totally spoiled while we were there. On one particular night, she prepared some sweet potato fries that had this amazing seasoning on it, and I couldn’t resist asking for her secret recipe. She mentioned that she was not the original creator of the recipe and that she had received it from a friend, who had also received it from a friend. These are the best types of recipes because they get better as they are passed on. Well later that night she dug through her recipes and could not find it. So I thought that was the end of it and that I would have to experiment to figure out what was in it. I knew about half of the ingredients, but was unsure how much of each.
Then about a month later we were over at our friends house for dinner, and out of nowhere she said her mom had something for me. I was a little confused at first and then I saw the recipe card. Wahoo! Her mom finally found the recipe! We wanted to share this wonderful recipe with you. So below is the recipe for this delicious BBQ seasoning and it yields a little over two cups. This might seem like a lot, but once you taste it, you’re will season everything with it. I divided the seasoning into several small jars to share the love with friends this summer for cookouts. Make sure to attach the recipe so they can make it themselves.
2 C. Sea salt
4 Tbsp. Paprika
3 Tbsp. Chili powder
3 Tbsp. Black pepper
3 Tbsp. Onion salt
3 Tsp. Garlic salt
1 1/2 Tsp. Celery salt
1 Tsp. Red pepper
1/2 Tsp. Dry Mustard

Combine all ingredients in a large mason jar, secure lid and shake until all ingredients are mixed. Store in a air tight container. (I used several small jars)

This sounds delicious! I love finding a new favorite seasoning. Did you guys try any KC barbecue when you were here? If not, then next time you’re in town we’ll have to check some out:)
