Since January I have been shooting more and more with actual film using my Canon AE-1 and it has been an absolute blast! So far I have shot about eight rolls of film, and the only thing that is stopping me from shooting more is the price of processing. It gets pricey pretty quickly, but is worth the investment. Out of those eight rolls of film I have grown so much in my photography skill sets. It’s easy with a digital camera to fire off 20 photos and not really think about what you are shooting because you can immediately see if you’ve captured a good shot. Shooting with film has forced me to slow down and evaluate what I am shooting, form thinking more critically about composition (to the type of light around me), and what story I am wanting to tell. As the year goes on I will keep you guys updated on my progress, any tips that I figure out, and the occasional mess up photo that turn out looking great with their imperfections.

Here are my top film tips that I have learned in 2014:
1. Have Fun
2. Find others to shoot with
3. Focus is key
4. Tell a story
5. Slow down

Let’s face it. It’s the beards that make the photos.
